Hi Oppo, I’ll make this quick:
Here’s a photo of my lovely TSX basking in the glory of the morn
ing sun (7am to be ex
act. It’s also a photo of the worlds worst gas pump. That thing had a grudge against me or something, but it took quite some time for it to actually read my card.
Here’s
a photo of my TSX 8 hours and 500+
miles
later stopping for it’s first and only drink of the 10 and a half hour 700 mile
road trip from GA to MD.
Cutting it very close.
I’m damn proud that I churned through 8 hours of highway driving, and I’m even happier that I drive a car that just eats up the miles. The suspension could be softer thou gh, my ass hurts.
Tomorrow I’m driving for about an hour to see my grandmother , then 3 more hours to a lake for a week for some RnR., and a fter these past 3 days of endurance driving I’ll have earned it for sure.
That’s all. Take care folks!

I love cars with super long range. I’ve squeezed 550 miles out of the 18 gallon tank in my Volvo, very satisfying.

Damn, those TSXs have long range! What was the MPG?
![]() 07/26/2020 at 21:48 |

Jealous of that range. I like to bring an egg crate seat pad for long hauls like that.
Belated welcome to Oppo as well. That color of your TSX is fantastic .

If you don’t mind me asking, where in GA did you stop?

Some flavor of whiteblock, I assume?
I was amazed that I could squeeze out 550 miles from a tank of gas in my V70 on a cross-country drive last year (Seattle to southern Vermont & back) . First time I’d had the opportunity to do more than about 100 miles at a stretch in it.

Mine has done 32mpg on a long slower coastal road but mixed city driving I always end up 22, but thats SF with hills all over.

What are the little BBs in your plate?

Yeah, B5244S. That engine is just awesome.

Sounds like a really bi g gas tank, then?

It is 18.5 gallons, pretty good range, I think when I fill it up it says 422 miles of range.

I agree with everything my other TSX buddy has said. It’s a great car for long drives, though it dues get a bit uncomfortable.
It’s odd, newer MDXs and RDXs have a much smaller tank than the TSX Wagon, despite the fact that they’re significantly larger. Always thought that was funny.

Oh, I love the V70s and XC70s. Super edgy design and real... well.. boxy is the only word for it. Glad you squeezed a lot out of it. That’s one of the reasons I didn’t ultimately get one... that and price, they’re kinda expensive even used.

Why thank you Mr. Beater GT. That Legacy of yours is a fine catch as well. Haven’t used an Egg Crate before, but I’ll certainly look into them.

I have some family living in Locust Grove, which isn’t too far from Atlanta (45 minutes I think?)
Thanks for being mindful hen asking.

Truth be told, I think they’re just double Bs, so my plate just reads 9BB0561. Doesn’t have a name, and if I ever need to spell it out I just say BB.
It’s odd, but I like it.

Oh ok, never seen anything like that outside of specialty plates for the press etc...

This was a dirt-cheap ‘02 (and fairly dirty inside - definitely a kid hauler, judging from the disgusting mess under the rear seat). It’s been needier than I anticipated, even knowing the typical weak points.
But boxy?! Hah! Blobby is generous. (Note: nearly 30 years of owning 240s may skew my view of what constitutes boxy.) Your TSX is a handsome longroof.
It’s an extremely comfortable long-distance rig.

Nice. That’s down in Henry County, which is kind of far from where I am.

Oh yeah, 240s are quite literally butter boxes with wheels on it. Correct me if I’m wrong, but does the V70 have 3 rows? I know there are some models that do... I think.

Well I drive to GA every now and then from the south, so if you’re deeper south into the state it’s kind of on the way.

I went to school about a half hour from Macon, but I’m closer to Atlanta, northern wise.

Mine has the rear-facing 3rd row , and it’s utterly unusable for anyone but very small children . It’s stupid.
I need to remove it & put it up for sale or straight up trade for the parts to put it back to under-floor storage.
![]() 07/28/2020 at 22:52 |

Oh sheesh that’s no good. I’d love a three row wagon with actual three rows.
Also I thought rear facing seats were illegal? Or at the very least controversial.

I can’t picture a scenario where I’d want to have that many people in a car. Having more than 1 passenger with me is 1 too many, and I sure as hell don’t want any kids in my vehicles.
I think Volvo offered the rear-facing seat in the V70/V70XC/XC70 for the duration of the P2 platform, no clue if it continued into the P3 . MB E-class wagons had them as recently as 2017 , and the Tesla Model S did through at least MY2015.
There doesn’t seem to be any doubt that rear-facing seats are less safe in a hit from the back.

That’s where you and I differ. I love passengers. Long road trips when people sing along in the back, late nights where people fall asleep as I drive, those are my favorite times simply because I’m doing what I love in good company.
Do I scare a lot of my passengers with some less than legal driving every now and again? Sure. But it’s what makes me giddy.

I’m thinking age may have something to do with that, but I was a curmudgeon well before my time social distancing before it was cool ;-)

Oh I’m a bit of a grump myself, and a total pessimist, but scaring my friends/any potential lady interests is not only a passion of mine, it’s a skillset.
